Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Aum (“the app”, “we”, “us”) does with your information. Aum is published by Alpha Intel Labs.

1. Information We Collect

None. Aum does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, location, contacts, photos, or any other personal information, and it has no facility to receive them. There is no account to create and no profile to fill in.

We do not operate a server, and the app never sends anything to us. We do not run analytics, crash reporting, attribution, advertising or A/B testing SDKs of any kind. We hold no record that you have ever installed or opened Aum.

The one exception to “nothing leaves the device” is the purchase check described in section 4, which is handled for us by RevenueCat. It knows an anonymous installation identifier and whether a purchase exists. It does not know who you are, and neither do we.

2. What Is Stored on Your Device

Aum saves a small amount of data locally, in your device's app storage, so that it can work the way you left it. This data never leaves your device, is not readable by us, and is not backed up to any service we control.

Session history

When you finish a session of at least one minute, Aum records its name, its type, how long you actually listened, the breathing pattern in use, whether it ran to completion, and the time it happened. This is what draws the “Your practice” screen. It is capped at the most recent 500 entries and you can erase all of it from within the app.

Your settings

Volume, theme, Presence step, pulse and vibration strength, and your chosen breathing pattern, ambience and bell — including any per-program preferences and any custom breathing pattern you build.

Purchase state

A single flag recording whether the full version has been unlocked on this device. It contains no purchase details, no payment information and no identifier.

Trial state

A count of how many of your five trial sessions you have used, and the date the trial started. To establish that date, the app reads the installation date your operating system already records for it. That date is read on your device, is used only to work out how long the trial has left, and is never transmitted — to us or to anyone else.

While a trial session is playing, the app also notes what is playing, how long it has run and how much of it has been counted, so that a session interrupted by the app closing is still counted for the time it played. That note is deleted as soon as the session ends. Like everything else in this section, it stays on your device.

3. Network Access

Aum contains no streamed or downloaded content. Every tone, pulse, bell and soundscape is generated by the app itself while it plays, and the entire catalogue is compiled into the app binary. Nothing is fetched at runtime.

The Android build declares the standard INTERNET permission, which the purchase flow requires. The app's only network requests are that purchase check: it asks RevenueCat whether this installation holds the full version when it starts, and again when you buy or restore. Nothing else in Aum uses the network, nothing is ever sent to us, and the app functions fully with your device offline — the only things that need a connection are buying and restoring.

4. Purchases

The full version of Aum is a one-time purchase. Payment is handled entirely by the app store you downloaded it from — Google Play, or the Apple App Store if and when an iOS version is released. We never see or receive your payment details. The store tells the app only whether a valid purchase exists.

Your purchase is subject to that store's own privacy policy and terms, which we do not control.

Aum uses RevenueCat to verify entitlements — that is, to establish whether this installation has paid, including when you restore a purchase on a new device. To do that, RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated installation identifier that it creates itself, together with the receipt the app store issues. It does not receive your name, your email address, your device's advertising identifier, or anything about which sessions you play or when. We do not send it anything else, and we cannot use it to identify you. Its handling of that data is covered by RevenueCat's own privacy policy.

5. Permissions

Aum requests only what it needs to play a session, and explains each one here:

• Vibration — drives the haptic layer, which pulses in time with your breath.
• Foreground service (media playback) and wake lock — keep audio running with the screen off. Without these, Android suspends the app partway through and a 90-minute sleep program dies in the middle of the night.
• Notifications — shows the standard playback notification while a session is running, so you can see and stop it from the lock screen.
• Internet — as described in section 3.

Aum does not request the microphone, camera, location, contacts, calendar, phone state, or access to your files or photos. It cannot record audio.

6. Children's Privacy

Aum is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — of any age — because the app collects nothing at all. Parents should be aware of the health and safety warnings in our Terms of Service, particularly the one concerning seizure disorders, before allowing a child to use rhythmic audio stimulation.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or delete on request, and no profile to opt out of. Everything Aum stores is under your direct control on your own device:

• Clear your practice history from the app at any time.
• Clearing the app's storage in your device settings erases what Aum has written to your device. If you have bought the full version, “Restore” on the unlock screen brings your purchase back.
• Uninstalling the app removes everything it has stored.

A record of your purchase is held by the app store, not by us. Requests relating to that record — including refunds — go to the store.

8. Data Security

The strongest security property Aum has is that there is nothing to breach: no server, no database, no account and no transmission. Data written on your device is protected by your device's own operating-system sandbox and whatever screen lock and encryption you have enabled on it.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page and publish the revised version here. If a future version of Aum ever collects or transmits anything, we will say so plainly and in advance rather than quietly widening this document.
