Privacy Policy

Alpha Intel Labs ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Ahara mobile application and website (the "Service"). Ahara is an AI-powered ingredient analyzer that uses artificial intelligence to read product labels and provide informational analysis of ingredients. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, your name and profile information provided by those services.

Product Images

When you scan a product label, Ahara captures a photo using your device camera. These images are:

• Sent to our servers for AI-powered text extraction and ingredient analysis.
• Processed by Google Gemini (a third-party AI service) to read the label and analyze ingredients.
• Not stored on our servers after analysis is complete. Images are processed in real time and discarded.
• Stored locally on your device as part of your scan history, which you control and can delete at any time.

Scan Results & Chat History

Analysis results (ingredient lists, scores, and AI commentary) are generated server-side and returned to your device. They are stored only locally on your device and are not persisted in our databases. Chat conversations about scanned products are also stored locally only.

Usage Data

We collect basic usage information such as scan counts, subscription tier, and account creation date to manage service limits and improve the app.

Device Information

We collect a device identifier (native device ID on mobile, or a generated browser fingerprint on web) to enforce free trial limits and link trial scans to user accounts. This identifier is stored in our database alongside your scan count.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide the Service: Process product label images, extract ingredient text via AI, and return informational analysis results.
• Account Management: Authenticate your identity, manage subscription status, and enforce scan limits.
• Trial Enforcement: Use device identifiers to manage free trial scan allowances.
• Improve the Service: Understand usage patterns to fix bugs and improve features.
• Communications: Send password reset emails and essential account notifications. We do not send marketing emails.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

• Google Gemini (AI) — Product label images are sent to Google's Gemini API for text extraction and ingredient analysis. Images are processed in real time and are subject to Google's Gemini API Terms. We do not use your data to train AI models.
• Google Firebase — Authentication, database (Firestore), cloud functions, and hosting. Firebase Privacy Policy

• Apple / Google — If you purchase a subscription through the App Store or Google Play, your payment is processed by Apple or Google respectively. We do not have access to your payment card details.

4. Data Retention

• Account data (email, subscription tier, scan count) is retained in our database until you delete your account.
• Product images and scan results are stored only on your device and are never retained on our servers after processing.
• Device trial records (device ID, scan count) are retained to prevent trial abuse and are deleted when you delete your account.

5. Your Rights

• Delete your account: You can permanently delete your account and all associated server-side data from the Settings screen in the app. This action is irreversible.
• Delete local data: You can clear your scan history, saved images, and chat history from within the app at any time.
• Data export: You may request a copy of your data by emailing us.
• Opt out: You can stop using the Service at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase security rules that restrict database access to authenticated users, server-side token verification for all API requests, and per-user rate limiting. All AI analysis prompts are stored server-side and are not included in the client application. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

7. Children's Privacy

Ahara is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
